02 Logging

Log a meal in under 5 seconds.

Say it, snap it, scan it, or type the numbers yourself. Caaals fills in the rest.

  • Type

Write it like you’d say it. The AI identifies the food and fills in calories and macros.

  • Photo

Snap the plate. Add a note if it helps — the AI trusts your note over its own guess.

  • Barcode

Scan the pack. Nutrition comes from the Open Food Facts database.

  • Manual

Already know the numbers? Enter them yourself. No AI in the way.

Logged it before? One tap.

Favorites and recents log again instantly — the meal is picked by the time of day, serving and time pre-filled. Trusted results log themselves; only implausible ones — say 800 kcal in a single serving — are flagged for review.

03 Accuracy

The AI identifies.
The database answers.

Two steps: the AI names the food, then nutrition comes from a real database match. Estimation is only the fallback — and no database rabbit holes either, no “chicken breast, generic user #42”.

DatabaseHigh confidenceEdit

An entry, up close. Example.

  1. Source

Every entry says where its nutrition came from: database label AI-estimated

  2. Confidence

How sure the identification is — stated on the entry, not hidden behind it.

  3. Editable

Any number changes in a tap. A reset brings back the AI’s values whenever you want them.

Caaals measures its own accuracy.

Every estimate is compared against what users actually confirm — corrections are tracked weekly, by source and by model. The most-corrected foods become regression tests.

04 Platforms

One diary. iPhone, web, and Raycast.

Log wherever you are. Everything lands in the same diary.

  • iPhone

The diary in your pocket — camera, barcode, favorites, and the projection.

    Download on the App Store
  • Web

app.caaals.com in any browser. Nothing to install — the same diary, the same numbers.

    Open the web app
  • Raycast on Mac

Log by typing from anywhere. Quick Log re-logs favorites and recents in one keystroke — no AI wait.

Today’s remaining calories in the menu bar, refreshed every 15 minutes.

05 The score

Then the day gets a number.

Each day scores 0–100: how well calories fit your target, whether the macros hold up, the limit nutrients — fibre, sugar, sodium — and how processed the food is (NOVA, weighted by calories). Never imputed: missing data rescales the day instead of guessing it.

We score the day, not the person.

An example week against a 2,050 kcal target. Friday ran 330 over and scored 58 — that’s all that happens.
The example week: calories and nutrition score per day.
